THE MEANING OF PERFECT

The following poem is on display April 2015 in Montpelier, VT as part of their Poem City event:

THE MEANING OF PERFECT

“Perfect”
From the Latin root
meaning “to complete
or to finish”-

as in, perfect needs
no improvement.

And so,
I would never say
that you are perfect,
because flaws

give us personality,
and help us
to grow beyond
what

we’re given
by genes and time
and luck.

No,
now that I have you
in my life,
it’s not you who is perfect,
but rather me.

I am perfect:
Complete.
Finished.
